MAYLAYA GEMS · THE DIAMOND EDIT

How to choose a lab grown diamond in Thailand

Start with your total budget, the designs you enjoy and the date you need the jewellery. These three details make a shortlist more useful than comparing photographs or carat weights alone. Keep a note of each product code so that every question refers to the same piece.

Think about everyday wear

Consider how the ring will fit into your routine. Ask to see the setting from the side, including the height of the head and the position of the prongs. If you plan to wear it beside a wedding band, ask to see the two together. For a gift, check the recipient’s preferences before choosing a design.

Separate shape from cut quality

A shape name describes an outline or cutting style; cut quality concerns how the diamond interacts with light. Ask for a video of the actual stone and compare alternatives under similar lighting. Do not rely on a shape name as a guarantee of sparkle.

Check dimensions as well as carat weight

Carat measures weight, not face-up size. Ask for millimetre measurements and an on-hand view to understand the proportions. Also clarify whether the listing describes the centre stone or the combined diamond weight of the piece.

Review the selected stone

Where a diamond report is provided, request the number and check the information with the issuing laboratory. Compare the report details with the stone being offered. If an entry is unfamiliar, ask what it means for this particular purchase rather than choosing by a laboratory name alone.

Confirm the complete order

Record the metal colour and fineness, ring size, design changes and everything included in the quote. Request the delivery estimate, resizing terms and after-sales arrangements for your order in writing. A clear order summary gives both you and the jeweller the same reference point.
