LESSON 38 / 42
Violet, distinct from purple
In everyday language, violet and purple are often used interchangeably. In coloured diamond terminology, the violet colour family is distinct from purple, so the wording on the report matters.
Diamonds in the violet family may have grey or blue in their descriptions. A stone might be described as greyish violet or bluish violet, for example, and those modifying words are an essential part of how its colour is communicated.
Read the complete colour description, including any modifying hue. Then look at the stone itself in good, even light. The shades in this guide are illustrative and are not grading samples.
