Tone and transparency
Grey diamonds can vary in tone and transparency. Some are light and clear, with a soft, silvery character; others are darker and more muted, with a different overall appearance.
The examples in this guide are descriptive. They are not a formal grading chart, and they should not be used to judge where a particular stone falls. Grey diamonds may also carry modifying hues, such as a bluish or greenish influence, which the report will record.
Dark grey and Fancy Black are distinct colour descriptions. Fancy Black is its own colour description, and black diamonds are usually opaque. If you are drawn to the darker shades, read the report’s colour description carefully to know exactly which you are considering.
