LESSON 20 / 42
A photograph cannot confirm origin
Natural diamonds, laboratory-grown diamonds and simulants can look remarkably alike, especially in a photograph or to the unaided eye. That is why appearance alone is not reliable proof of origin.
IGI uses specialist screening technologies to distinguish natural diamonds, laboratory-grown diamonds and simulants. These instruments look at properties that cannot be judged simply by looking, and the findings are recorded on the laboratory report.
When you choose a diamond, read the laboratory findings and ask for clear disclosure. A trustworthy description of origin is part of knowing exactly what you own, and should be read alongside its other identifying details. For an IGI-certified Maylaya Gems diamond, check the origin stated on its accompanying report.
