เพชรสีดำมีคำบรรยายสีเพียงแบบเดียวคือ Fancy Black ไม่ได้แบ่งเป็นหลายระดับความเข้มเหมือนเพชรสีอื่น
เพชรสีดำมักทึบแสง การมองเห็นแสงจึงต่างจากเพชรโปร่งใส ประกายที่เห็นจึงมาจากการสะท้อนของแสงบนหน้าเหลี่ยมที่ขัดเงา ให้ความเงางามแบบเรียบหรูและแตกต่างจากประกายของเพชรไร้สี

Colour, appearance and origin
Fancy Black is a single colour-grade description. Unlike many coloured diamonds, black is not divided into a series of intensity steps.
Black diamonds are usually opaque. Their polished facet reflections differ from light travelling through a transparent diamond: rather than the brightness and fire created inside a colourless stone, a black diamond offers a glossy, mirror-like lustre from its surface. Its appearance is therefore different from the internal light effects of a transparent diamond.
As with any coloured diamond, colour origin is a matter for laboratory assessment, so read the report’s findings carefully. Dark grey and Fancy Black remain distinct colour descriptions. The illustrations in this guide are educational and are not grading samples.
