Laser inscriptions on the girdle
Some diamonds carry a fine laser inscription on the girdle, the narrow outer edge of the stone. This inscription can link a diamond to its report number, helping with identification under magnification.
The inscription is far too small to read with the unaided eye. It is viewed under magnification, which is why it is best checked with your jeweller using a loupe or microscope.
An inscription is a helpful clue, but it is one detail among several. Have it checked under magnification alongside the stone’s other identifying details, such as its measurements and the information on its report.
