Pear and marquise diamonds are admired for their graceful points, and those tips deserve thoughtful protection. Pointed ends are vulnerable to damage, making the setting especially important.
V-shaped prongs can help shield pointed ends by cradling the tip rather than leaving it exposed. When designing a piece with a pointed shape, choose a setting with care, considering both how it looks and how well it protects the stone.
Everyday wear gradually affects any setting. Have the setting inspected regularly, especially if a prong appears worn or loose. With the right setting and a little attention over time, a pear or marquise diamond can be enjoyed with confidence.
