LESSON 19 / 42

Different processes. Diamond crystal.

Laboratory-grown diamonds are created using one of two main processes. Each has its own approach, yet both produce diamond crystal.

HPHT stands for high pressure, high temperature. It uses intense heat and pressure to grow diamond. CVD stands for chemical vapour deposition. It uses carbon-bearing gas to build diamond crystal layer by layer.

Both methods begin with diamond seed material, a small piece of diamond from which new crystal grows. The process influences how a diamond develops, but what emerges in each case is diamond. Read the process information alongside the origin stated on the diamond’s report.
